You know here in Europe we have smaller distances than in America, and  the countries are as big as your states basically, or even smaller. If you drive or take the train or the bus for a few hours you can get to a totatlly different country, or even cross multiple borders during your journey. The exchange rate from Euro to the Eastern countries money helps them a lot too, plus the overall cost of living is much cheaper in the east), So a lot of them go to motels or try out the focus of my story today, couch surfing. You can register on websites and find normal people offering a stay to you in their home, in exchange that if they are in their country, they'll do the same. 

So a really nice girl came to my country and chose my apartment to crash for a few days and she was an absolute delight.
