Democrats in panic mode as Elon Musk and DOGE go public
It is not surprising that Democrats and their media allies have been lying to the public about DOGE
    By Liz Peek Fox News
    Published April 1, 2025 5:00am EDT

Democrats are facing their worst nightmare: Elon Musk, one of the smartest people on the planet, is revealing their dirty tricks. No wonder they are out to destroy him and his companies.

Musk spoke recently at a town hall in Wisconsin, supporting a Republican candidate for that state’s Supreme Court who could be critical in determining whether the GOP continues to narrowly control the House of Representatives. The currently liberal court is likely to redraw the swing state’s districts to favor Democrats, costing GOP seats.

But Musk also discussed some of the shocking discoveries made by his DOGE team as they have sifted through the federal bureaucracy. Perhaps most galling was that 5.5 million people who entered the U.S. illegally during Joe Biden’s presidency were issued Social Security numbers, making them eligible for various government programs. According to a DOGE colleague, 1.3 million of that population were found to be receiving Medicaid benefits; he reported that all the default systems in the Social Security Administration had been set to "maximum inclusion" and "maximum pay."

DOGE Is Trying to Gift Itself a $500 Million Building, Court Filings Show
The documents reveal a DOGE affiliate is attempting to transfer the headquarters of an independent think tank, the United States Institute of Peace, to the government at no cost.

    Brian Barrett - Mar 31, 2025 8:06 PM

The DOGE-affiliated acting president of the United States Institute of Peace, a Congressionally funded, independent think tank, has moved to transfer the agency’s $500 million headquarters building to the General Services Administration free of charge, according to court documents revealed in a recently filed lawsuit.

Tensions at USIP have been escalating for weeks, starting when the Trump administration fired the agency’s 10 voting board members on March 14 and USIP staffers denied DOGE representatives access at the front door. Three days later, DOGE employees made their way into the building, reportedly using a physical key from a former security contractor. The dramatic confrontations culminated in a full takeover, with former State Department official Kenneth Jackson assuming the role of president. As of this past Friday, most USIP staffers have received termination notices.

Former USIP officials have since filed a lawsuit against Jackson, DOGE, Donald Trump, and other members of the Trump administration, seeking an immediate intervention “to stop Defendants from completing the unlawful dismantling of the Institute,” according to the complaint. While US district judge Beryl Howell declined the USIP request for a temporary restraining order that would reinstate the institute’s board on March 19, she sharply criticized DOGE’s conquest in court.

Court documents filed by defendants on Monday reveal the next phase of DOGE’s plans for USIP. As of March 25, DOGE staffer Nate Cavanaugh—formerly installed at GSA—has replaced Jackson as the institute’s acting president, the documents show. They further state that Cavanaugh has been instructed to transfer USIP’s assets—including its real estate—to the GSA. The letter detailing those changes and instructions was signed by secretary of defense Pete Hegseth and secretary of state Marco Rubio.

Cavanaugh did not immediately respond to a request for comment by WIRED. The lead attorney for the Department of Justice in this case also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a separate undated letter, which was also included in the batch of documents filed with the court, Cavanaugh writes to GSA acting administrator Stephen Ehikian: “I have concluded that it is in the best interest of USIP, the federal government, and the United States for USIP to transfer its real property located at 2301 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, D.C. 20037, to GSA and to seek an exception from the 100 percent reimbursement requirement for the building.”

Cavanaugh goes on to estimate that the building has a “fair market value” of $500 million.

In another letter included in the lawsuit’s docket dated March 29, Project 2025 architect and Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought writes to Ehikian to approve his request “to set the amount of reimbursement at no cost for the transfer of the United States Institute of Peace’s (USIP) headquarters building.”

To state this plainly: DOGE forced out the directors and staff of a nonexecutive agency and installed one of its own GSA staffers as president, and that person is now attempting to hand the institute’s $500 million headquarters over to the agency he came from, at zero cost.

“The effort to transfer the building to GSA is part of the DOGE playbook to run agencies through a wood chipper. That’s what they’re trying to do,” claims George Foote, longtime outside general counsel to USIP. “They’re trying to kill the agency, which they have no right to do.”

Lawyers for the former USIP staff filed a motion Monday to prevent the transfer of assets. In an opposing court filing, government lawyers claim that “the Institute is an executive agency and has decided consistent with the Executive Order and its statutory authority to transfer its excess property to GSA,” referring to president Donald Trump's February EO that purportedly “reins in independent agencies.”

Judge Howell will decide whether to allow the transfer in court Tuesday; a broader ruling in the USIP case is expected by the end of the month.

    Additional reporting by Matt Giles.

A reminder to all the MAGAt's: USIP is a NON PROFIT that is NOT FUNDED by the government. DOGE is STEALING the building.

Well, this will leave a mark on the liberal narrative, won't it?
After all, they've all but declared that Trump is grooming Musk to be his replacement, or his alter ego, or some such nonsense.
Pretty hard to continue pushing that nonsense when the President is saying that it looks like DOGE will finish its work early and will be able to turn the job over to the cabinet secretary's.
    No matter.
The left will just spin some other bullshit to sell their agenda of hate and get trump no matter what.
Trump suggests Elon Musk’s DOGE could be shut down long before its expected closing date
Trump suggests Elon Musk’s DOGE could be shut down long before its expected closing date
    Story by Christiaan Hetzner
    • 2h

The Department of Government Efficiency may end after only 130 days, well before its original schedule, as Musk's work at DOGE has become increasingly unpopular among some of the president's constituents. “There will be a point at which the secretaries will be able to do this work and do it, as we say, with a scalpel," Trump told reporters on Monday.
President Donald Trump may already be looking to pull the plug on Elon Musk’s controversial DOGE project just two months into his administration.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump suggested his Cabinet secretaries already have learned everything from the Tesla CEO they needed to boost efficiency.

Soon they would be in a position to remove the training wheels and steer their departments without the input from Musk, whose work at DOGE has become increasingly unpopular among some of the President's constituents.

The President has had to defend DOGE cuts affecting voters in some Republican strongholds while simultaneously lobbying for steep tariff hikes—proposals that have dragged the stock market into the red and fueled recession fears.

Trump recently voiced some displeasure with Musk, demanding the Tesla CEO adopt a more surgical approach rather than wield a chainsaw, as he did onstage with fellow cost-cutter Argentine President Javier Milei.

“A lot of the people that are working with DOGE are the secretaries—you know, the heads of the various agencies—and they’ve learned a lot,” Trump said during a briefing in the Oval Office, adding some of his cabinet staff may try to retain a few of the leftover DOGE personnel advising them.

“There will be a point at which the secretaries will be able to do this work and do it, as we say, with a scalpel.”

Radically shrinking the government was the new "Manhattan Project" for Republicans
The remarks came in response to a question about what may happen to DOGE once Musk’s term of service ends.

The world's richest man is currently classified as a Special Government Employee and is limited to working no longer than 130 days out of the entire year; this distinction is important because SGEs benefit from laxer ethics and compliance rules than regular government employees.

If Trump uses Musk’s impending departure to pull the plug on DOGE entirely, it would bring the project to an end long before the envisioned cutoff date on July 4, 2026, when the country celebrates its 250th Independence Day—just before the 2026 midterm election campaigning begins in earnest.

In November, Trump dubbed DOGE nothing less than the “Manhattan Project of our time” when he first confirmed that Musk would join his administration to run the unofficial body named after the ticker symbol of Musk’s favorite crypto meme coin.

“Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of DOGE for a very long time,” Trump wrote of the effort to radically shrink the size of the federal government, initially by $2 trillion and later scaled down to $1 trillion.

Musk claims he's on target to achieve $1 trillion in savings
Even before he assumed his role, Musk gave a sense of the pain to come when he penned a column in which he called for “mass headcount reductions” to the 2 million-strong federal workforce.

Many of the savings in waste and fraud he claims to have unearthed have been disputed or debunked, including the famous example of a supposed $50 million payment to send condoms to Hamas terrorists.

But it was his claim that the Social Security entitlement program—people’s retirement funds—was the “biggest Ponzi scheme of all time” that appeared to most worry Americans.

In an effort to drum up support for his team's efforts, Musk appeared on Fox News with seven other senior assistants at DOGE last Thursday to dispute the wrecking-ball-style characterization of their cuts.

“I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dolllars' worth in that time frame,” Musk said, asked about his 130-day term of office. “Our goal is to reduce the waste and fraud by $4 billion a day, every day, seven days a week—and so far we are succeeding.”
